The name Bittervrug translates as “bitter fruit” — an accurate description of the subject matter on this mammoth debut release. Bloed vir Ontbyt is a collection of sparse, dark and intensely close-to-the-bone moments, in Afrikaans, from the mind of Pretoria-based Charles Badenhorst. On one hand it is gentle and seductive, drawing you in; on the other hand it is spooky, un-well and experimental — featuring some truly insane production, intelligent lyrics and underlying black humour.
